Dispatch report(2017)

  1. Yuan Liang

    2017/8/28~10/17

Conducting high pressure and high temperature experiments for Jointly supervised doctoral study at Bayerisches Geoinstitut, Germany: Experiments on the synthesis of high pressure hydrous phase epsilon FeOOH were tested using a multianvil press under the supervision of Prof. Frost. The starting materials were Fe2O3 and H2O.The sample with high H2O/Fe2O3 ratio was loaded into the Pt/Au capsule. After experiments, we recovered the samples to check whether epsilon FeOOH was synthesized by x-ray powdered diffraction. In our five experiments did so far, epsilon FeOOH was not observed. Leakage of water was popular at high pressure and high temperature conditions. In addition, ferrous iron was present due to the reduced surrounding conditions.

    2017/8/29~11/23

I visited the Bayerisches Geoinstitut, University of Bayreuth from August to November. During this period of stay, I conducted the 25 experiments under the supervision of Profs. McCammon and Keppler. My research topic is that experimental constraints on the dihedral angle between olivine and multicomponent aqueous fluids in the upper mantle conditions.
